How swapping works

TradeSwap turns a simple service swap into a clear, agreed exchange. Combine as many services as you need on either side until both members agree the overall exchange is fair.

1. Create your profile

Add your business details, the services you offer with an indicative value for each one, and the services you're looking for. Upload qualifications and complete verification steps to build trust.

2. Discover and match

Search and filter services by category, location, rating and approximate value, or let TradeSwap suggest two-way matches where you each want what the other offers.

3. Build the exchange

A swap doesn't have to be one job for one job. Select several services on either side and adjust the scope or quantity of each until the totals line up — a higher-value service can be matched against a few smaller ones.

4. Check the totals

TradeSwap shows the total indicative value offered by each side as you build. If the two sides genuinely can't be matched with services, you can agree a small cash balancing payment for the difference.

5. Both members approve and pay their fee

Both members approve the services included, the scope or quantity of each service, the indicative values, the total agreed exchange value, the timing, any cash balancing payment and their individual platform fee. Both members then pay their own platform fee upfront. The exchange only becomes active once both fees have been successfully paid.

6. Do the work

Deliver your side of the exchange. Each member marks their side complete when every service in their bundle is done.

7. Complete and review

Once the agreed work has been completed, both members confirm completion and can leave a review. Nothing further to pay — the platform fee was settled before the exchange became active.

Worked example: one big job for three smaller ones

Sarah is an electrician and Mike runs a cleaning company. Sarah's rewire is worth more than any single job Mike offers, so Mike bundles three services he can deliver and Sarah genuinely needs.

Sarah provides

  • Full rewire of a workshop£900

Side total£900

Mike provides

  • Monthly office deep clean (x3)£540
  • End-of-tenancy clean, 2-bed flat£260
  • Jet-washing the yard and bin store£80

Side total£880

Cash balancing payment
£20

Mike pays Sarah the £20 shortfall — only because the services couldn't be matched exactly.

Agreed exchange value
£900

4% platform fee per member at this value.

Each member pays upfront
£25

Only their own fee, paid before the exchange becomes active.

Every service, its scope and its indicative value is listed in the swap record, along with the totals, any cash difference and each member's own fee. Both members approve all of it and pay their own fee before the swap becomes active.

The more you swap, the lower your platform fee

The platform fee slides with the total agreed value of the exchange, and each member pays only their own share upfront. The fee is capped at £25 per member, however big the swap.
